DVD and CD production

Ever since Philips developed the technology of retrieving digital information at high speed from a shiny disc, we have all been fascinated by the possibilities. In recent years the applications that this has been used for have been staggering, everything from storing digital audio and large amounts of verifiable data to interactive games. When the first writable media came on the market and single speed - single drive CD recorders cost many thousands of pounds, we were among the first customers. Blank discs were then made of gold and cost in excess of £25 each and we were recording direct to CD. Since then we have continued to invest in CD and DVD production equipment and not just to duplicate or replicate the discs.

We have installed printing and packaging machinery of the first order giving us a dynamic capability to produce CD and DVD product quickly and efficiently. Also in our edit and mastering suite, we have professional PQ encoding and DVD authoring capabilities that sets us apart from many of the others.

Our CD mastering suite is currently running Masterlist CD for compiling audio content and Sound Designer 2 for editing, broadband noise reduction and hum removal. We do all our CD mastering output to Exabyte LDT and also use Mezzo Master to create the DDP when creating CD glass pre-masters (that is the medium that will carry the digital information to the laser beam recorder (LBR) that finally makes the glass master from which pressed or replicated CDs are made).

The thinking behind this has its' roots in digital error which is present in most CD formats presented for replication. However the Exabyte format writes its' digital information and verifies that all is present and correct ("looks for and corrects any errors that have been introduced on the first pass") after all this has been completed, the Exabyte makes a second pass just to "make sure" verifying that we have a bit for bit digital clone to work from. A fair amount of our CD printing and packaging equipment can also be used for DVD production. Indeed some of our towers duplicate CD and DVD.
